Abstract

Membrane computing is a well developed branch of natural computing, having as its goal to abstract computing models from the structure and the functioning of the living cell. A recent vivid direction of investigation in this area is devising models for and carrying out applications in biology/medicine and in other disciplines. We briefly present here the basic ideas of membrane computing, its interest for modeling in biology, as well as some applications.
